What's with this weather???

If there's one thing that the Northern Hemisphere does not do well it is ending winter. Granted it has been a while since I wouldn't leave the apartment without my thermals on, but the weather just can't seem to make it's mind up to get warm. Here we are in May, just a month from the beginning of summer and the mercury is still dipping down below ten degrees. Now maybe I was spoilt growing up in Australia's climate but this just seems ridiculous. I think yesterday it must have rained on at least ten seperate occasions, and that was just in the afternoon. My friend and I had intended to go the the Fete De Courses (race day) being held here in Maisons-Laffitte but in the end we decided that we weren't so excited by the prospect of it that we were willing to be showered every ten minutes, so we stayed in and watched a terrible movie (Slither, Nathan Fillion did much to redeem it, but not enough... he stayed dressed that whole time!) instead.

In the evening we headed in to Paris. First for a visit to Les Invalides (where Napoleans tomb is located) since it was a free night at the Parisian museums. If there is one thing this city does well it is free cultural activities. The first Sunday of every month all the major museums and galleries have free entry and on occasion they do evenings such as that one. The dome of the Church were the Tomb is was specially lit up for the occasion and it was a really nice atmosphere to visit in. Then we went on to a friends birthday party which was being held on the Bridge Des Beaux Arts. It's a lovely place to go with gorgeous views but again the less than temperate weather meant that it was a rather chilly gathering. The highlight had to be the group next to us being thouroughly searched by the police, we assume for drugs, "Look kids, street crime!" (Homer Simpson)

Today we had some people over for a French Brunch, this is exactly the same as an Australian/English/American/wherever Brunch except that it is held at about 2pm! Personally I am all in favour of this because really, I don't much care to get up too much earlier than that (especially after a late night, which let's face it is pretty standard on a Saturday) and it makes dessert seem a little less decadent (naturally I would eat it anyway, but it's good to feel it's an acceptable addition to the meal rather than a naughty indulgence).
